Over 100 Ranker voters have come together to rank this list of The Scariest Bosses In The 'Resident Evil' Series, Ranked

As one of the most popular video game franchises in history, Capcom's Resident Evil series has been terrifying gamers for more than 20 years. Premiering on the PlayStation in 1996, the first Resident Evil was a game-changer, essentially revolutionizing the survival horror genre and proving that video games, could, in fact, be pretty freaking terrifying.

While each installment features engaging characters (some recurring, some new) and eerie backdrops, the in-game designs—namely, the diabolical monsters—are one of the series' main staples. And now, with the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes upping the ante with improved graphics, gameplay mechanics, and more, these classic Resident Evil villains have never looked scarier.

From imposing enemies like Mr. X to horrifyingly huge creatures like the Draghignazzo, there have been some incredibly scary Resident Evil bosses over the years, but which ones actually gave you nightmares? Vote up all the enemies who terrified you the most, regardless of where they came from or how tragic their backstories are.

Latest additions: Lisa Trevor, Nemesis

    Mr. X

    Mr. X

    Appears In: Resident Evil 2

Easily one of the most iconic bosses in the series, Mr. X (officially known as T-00) is a tyrant sent to Raccoon City during the Destruction Incident. He was given instructions to recover a G-Virus sample and kill any survivors. His mammoth stature and imposing build make him a scary foe, but the fact that he's always pursuing you—through doors, walls, and more—makes him truly terrifying.

After Mr. X makes his entrance, he will pursue you relentlessly. However, there are some rooms you can go to where he won't follow. These rooms include the main hall of the police station and the clock tower. If you enter one of these rooms, he'll sulk outside and eventually wander off. Depending on which character you choose, he might end up as the main boss fight.

Luckily, he wears his heart on the outside, making it easy to target the weakest part of his body. Watch out for when he roars because this indicates that he's about to use his most powerful attack. When this happens, shoot him as much as you can in the heart to stagger him before he strikes. If you fail to stop the attack he will perform a devastating attack that can instantly kill you.

    Nemesis
    Photo: Capcom

    Appears In: Resident Evil 3

Easily one of the most powerful bosses in Resident Evil history, The Nemesis-T Type is a relentless creature that, like Tyrant, is constantly stalking you throughout the game. It doesn't help that the creature is insanely strong, imposing as hell, and features a rocket launcher to boot (or at least he did in the original game). Perhaps even scarier, this is one of the few enemies that when you first encounter can't actually be killed —no matter how hard you try. Created by Umbrella's No. 6 Laboratory, Nemesis is both highly intelligent and extremely powerful, making him one of the more formidable foes in the series.

Fighting Nemesis head-on when he appears throughout the game is a fool's errand. The best thing to do when you see Nemesis is to get as far away from him as possible. If you have high-powered weapons, you can stun him for a bit while you plan your escape.

    Lisa Trevor
    Photo: Capcom

Appears In: Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

Easily one of the most famous in Resident Evil, Lisa Trevor was a woman who was abducted by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals to be used as a test subject for several unethical and illegal weapons experiments with the Progenitor virus. Through various injections and experiments, she becomes twisted and deformed, eventually deemed a danger to her staff. Known as the first human test subject that eventually gave way to the Tyrant Virus, her backstory is almost as sad and twisted as her in-game design.

When she tries to attack you, make sure you shower her with enough bullets to push her back. The only time you don't want to employ this strategy is in the 2002 Resident Evil Remake when you're in the mansion. Instead, you should try to avoid her in this situation or she will become incredibly annoying as you make your way through the mansion.

    Marguerite Baker

Appears In: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Another eerie boss who's fleeting shadow of humanity makes her all the more nefarious, Marguerite Baker was the wife of Jack Baker, who's equally as chilling. There are two major boss fights against her. In the first encounter, she will stand at the top of a hole and summon insects to attack you. Once you deak enough damage, she will fall into the hole where she will be enveloped by a pool of bugs and slime.

The final boss fight takes place in the Greenhouse. You initiate the fight by walking up the stairs to the second floor. She will burst through the window and try to grab you. If she grabs you, you will need to attack her to get you to let you go. Once you injure her enough, she will start to flee. Once she's in hiding, she will position herself on several walls where she will create new hives for her insects to spawn. This is a great opportunity to attack Marguerite if you can find her. Otherwise, you will need to destroy the hives manually.

    Jack Baker

    Photo: Capcom

Appears In: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Jack Baker was formally the head of the wealthy Baker family in Louisiana. He and his family may have been responsible for a spree of kidnapping and murders that took place from 2015 to 2017, but unlike some of the other more monstrous bosses in Resident Evil lore, Jack Baker is one of the few zombies that is more man than beast, and that is what makes him so damn terrifying. He's easily one of the best parts of Resident Evil 7, and his resemblance to Jack Torrance only makes him all the more menacing.

You will first encounter Jack when you're in the main house and he'll be in the "stalking" form. While he's in this phase he can be unaware of your presence if you're sneaky. However, if he becomes aware of your movements, you will need to fight him. You can make him collapse by doing enough damage, but he will rise again after a set amount of time. As a result, it's best to avoid him at this stage.

You also encounter Jack in a boss fight when you enter the garage. He fights in the same way he does during the stalking phase; however, he will eventually enter the car and try to use it against you. Once you do enough damage he'll end up crashing the car.

    Nosferatu

    Nosferatu
    Photo: Capcom

Appears In: Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica X

Nosferatu was responsible for the creation of Alexia and Alfred Ashford. However, after they learned how they were born, the two experimented on their father and turned him into the abomination he is today. Resembling an eerie vampire-like beast, Nosferatu is a terrifying foe whose backstory is as scary as it is tragic.

When you fight Nosferatu you'll learn that he has two main attacks. He can attack with his large tentacle-like appendage that sprouts from his back. He can also expel deadly poisonous gas. He's also very fast, so it really isn't advisable to try to run away.

Nosferatu is blind, which means he can only attack you if he hears you. Therefore, using a sniper rifle is optimal because you can stay still. Aim for the heart as it does the most damage. You'll know you've hit his heart when he recoils and moans. It usually takes two to four shots to end him.
