The Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror V

There have been almost as many episodes of The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror" as there are seasons - which is a notable number at this point. Even with all the competition, "Treehouse of Horror V" stands out, with shorts based on Stephen King's The Shining, Ray Bradbury's time traveling short story "A Sound of Thunder,"and Soylent Green. Opening with a Outer Limits parody and ending with a fog that turns people inside out, this Simpsons Halloween episode has a little bit of everything terrifying.

The Muppet Show - Vincent Price

Yes, The Muppet Show also had Halloween episodes with Alice Cooper and Alan Arkin, but it's their first Halloween episode, in which Kermit declares ther will be no "no craziness, no slapstick, and no silliness," that is one of the most memorable. Ghosts haunt backstage, more monsters than usual fill the screen, and even Kermit gets into the holiday fun during a skit with guest star Vincent Price.

Phineas and Ferb - The Monster of Phineas-n-Ferbenstein

In classic kids show tradition, this Phineas and Ferb Halloween episode takes the form of a story from Granpa Reg about a Victorian ancestor and his platypus monster. At the same time, Doofenshmirtz regales Perry with a tale of his ancestor, a scientist who creates a shape-shifting concoction.

    Dinosaurs - Little Boy Boo

Rather than doing a straightforward seasonal story, the singular sitcom Dinosaurs frames its Halloween episode as a terrifying tale Robbie tells to Baby when he refuses to go to bed - of the horrifying half dinosaur/half man creature, the Wereman.
